Haute Magie is a multi-format record label specialising in a few distinct styles of sound.

ERA II : 05.30.11+

Founded in early 2009 by Silas Ciarán and Amanda Boutourline), it was little more than a name and a sketchy set of ideals until almost exactly one year later, with the release of Zebulon Kosted's cassette tape, "Novaya Zemlya". After more than a few follies (eleven, to be exact), Haute Magie decided to promptly close its doors until a time at which we thought that what we could accomplish would be something more than arbitrary, excessive artistic masturbation.

Thus, with a new name (slightly, as we've only dropped the word 'Records' from our official moniker), a new set of values that have picked the old bones clean, and a true inherent interest in actually making a difference in independent artistic communities worldwide, we wipe the floor clean and declare Haute Magie as born into the world, renvisioned as a true entity.

ERA I : pre 2011

Prior to reforming and truly finding its well-rested legs, Haute Magie was known as Haute Magie Records (an intangible and unintelligible difference, we know), a microlabel replete with bedroom aesthetics and bedroom eyes for a comfortable aural theme of noise and ambient explorations. Editions were small (our lowest run being fifteen, our highest topping out at eighty) and packaging was almost always handmade, save for in the case of a few CD-Rs in black paper sleeves with Kinkos-printed artwork and inserts. It was fun, it was kitschy, but it wasn't much more than something to do.

After eleven releases totaling four-hundred and thirty six copies (what should be just under the amount for a normal initial pressing of an album) we finally came to the ultimate conclusion that we weren't accomplishing what we wanted to. For over a year, we carved out a plot for a new model, a fresh mode, and a higher value placed on the overall processes of pacakging, promotion, and one of the most important new steps, (to follow in the steps of alliteration), payments. With our new royalty system, we are attempting to possibly set a new standard for independent labels everywhere, and strengthen the label / artist bond & relationship.
