Sometimes, no matter the content, the sweetest sounds must first be filtered through the darkest corners of the human mind. Culling samples from a society's lost bits of cultural ephemera, BATHAUS manages to break through those secluded borders, delivering, on pinpoints, a dreamy urban delight.

Voices call your name, bleeding their needs from the shadows of modern day notes and surreal interviews with lost minds and forgotten thoughts alike. As if submerged in an endless gulf of faltering television screens, the fears and hopes of a million melting minds are packed heavily into the reverberated rhythms and echoed beats of this barren synth-sparse dream.

Based on the concept of the cutup, ARCANE|||CUT manages to slice and dice through any preconceived notions that have been derived from the recent blend of broody gothic synthesisers, dark electronic manipulations, vocal delays, and hip hop culture to infiltrate our collective musical lives. With a toe in these murky waters, BATHAUS mixes pounding beats situated in the heart of darkness with washes and waves of ritualistic noise and ambient realisation.

Whether you need to exercise or exorcise your demons, there's no doubt that they'll have a grand old time with this soundtrack in their aural fields.

Article & interview with [The Phoenix]

Say what you will about witch house. Yes, the genre's artists have adopted a sort of spooky-scary leetspeak by filling their names with triangles and crosses. Yes, the prototypical witch-house band is named after a town that built a kitsch empire on a legacy of cold-blooded lady-killing. But in the dark winters of New England, haunted by the ghosts of Sam Adams, John Hancock, and weird nights at ManRay, witch house has a witch home. And Bathaus is our very own witch homegirl. [The Boston Phoenix]

While the fall of witch house began around 2010, a mere year after the term caught fire, there are still worthwhile projects coming out of that online black hole. Boston's BATHAUS released a debut cassette entitled ARCANE|||CUT for Austin's nascent indie imprint Haute Magie last month, and the 9-track collection walks the tightrope between good and evil, a departure from the traditional witch house blue print. [...]While Capachione uses the same vocabulary of sounds and techniques that have been passed down from outfits like oOoOO, BL/\CK CEILING, and even Shlohmo, she distinguishes her sound by adding new flair in the details. [PREFIXMAG]

Cut-up fragments of all kinds of weird instrumentation going on here - heavy synthesizers, sparse and dark electronics, vocals high on reverb, and some heavy beats provide quite a mess to wade through. But the mess is pretty trippy, and pretty good. [HAMMER SMASHED SOUND]

Witch house is still going strong in some circles of the Internet and a few days ago, Boston's BATHAUS offered up a cut from her album ARCANE|||CUT, a cool tune entitled "Grey Chant". The tune opens with a garbled sample of a crowd reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, making the tune especially creepy today, September 11. The tune proceeds with serious and heavy beat work, piercing synths, and chopped vocals. [GLOFI DAI.LY]

Witchy Bostonian beat maker, BATHAUS, strikes me as the type of goat-sacrificing cultist that keeps their skin all supple by bathing in the blood of virgins - just like me - so I knew I had to hit them up for an exclusive Noisey mix. Apparently inspired by gothic chanting and ritual spaces like cathedrals, BATHAUS' witchy hip-hop beats will make you howl like a werewolf and bite someone square on the neck as you're on the evening commute from work. about BATHAUS

Wrenching beats and blips from the depths of the human psyche's surround sound system, BATHAUS slices through the cerebral cortex of pre-existing compositions and creates her very own aural afflictions.
